The FAYOUM
paintings are egyptian funeral portraits appearing during the first centuries after
Christ, with the Roman occupation.
They were painted whether on the shroud, whether on a papyrus or a
wooden board, inserted between the mummy's bandage at the face's place.
This portraits were discovered at the FAYOUM oasis, but they might
have been taken from other places : ANTINOE, THEBES or MEMPHIS.
The technique used here is the wax-polish or wax
one plus distemper.
Concerning the was-polish technique, colors are applied by slight
juxtaposed drops and worked with a spatule. Pigments were first melted within hot
wax diluted with resin.. |
